From the Front Lines: Deaf/Hard of Hearing Early Interventionists Supporting Families (10 AM-11 AM)
This presentation will focus on early communication strategies and how to incorporate these strategies into tele-intervention, as well as in-person home visits.  All three presenters are Deaf themselves and have years of experience in early intervention. Topics presented will be varied but will include: supporting early communication foundations, coaching strategies, American Sign Language, and technology to support spoken language.  All these topics will relate to the primary focus of creating a language rich home environment.

Parent Coaching Through Connection (11 AM – 12 PM)
While 2020 has forced us all into a new way of life and left many of us feeling overwhelmed, it created many new opportunities for learning and connecting.

The practice of tele-intervention has expanded our service capabilities and empowered the families we serve in Early Intervention.  Research supports tele-intervention as an effective model for delivering high quality family-centered early intervention. Although Parent Coaching has been the gold standard in our field for many years, very few professionals actually went to school to learn how to teach adults. In March of last year, we found ourselves forced into coaching parents more than ever and we are discovering that this model is empowering, effective and here to stay.

Please join us to review coaching essentials and discuss effective strategies and tools to support your Early Intervention practice with families and children who have hearing difference.
Presented by Nan Thompson
Nanette Thompson, LSLS, Cert. AVT, has specialized in providing Listening and Spoken Language therapy to families and children with hearing differences for 25 years.  She has presented across the US on the topics of coaching, auditory skill development and tele-intervention.

Nan has a private practice, Listening 2 Learn, and works closely with The Listen Foundation providing mentoring and monthly workshops to EI professionals, and weekly Listening and Spoken Language therapy to families and children.  She has developed the L2L Coaching Model, A Provider Self-Assessment Tool for Early Intervention Providers Who Serve Families Using Listening and Spoken Language.
