Teaching a Child's First Teacher: Adult Learning in Early Intervention
March 3, 2022. 10-12 PM MT

While the focus of early intervention is to improve a child's developmental outcomes, a provider's energies and efforts focus on the child’s caregivers. We are teachers and coaches for parents, not teachers and therapists for the children. Our goal is to enable caregivers to be effective first teachers – to be consciously competent about how to support the unique needs of their child. As one early intervention provider commented, “the real impact of early intervention occurs after the provider leaves.”

In this 2-hour session we will review adult learning frameworks and best practices to enhance your capabilities to build caregivers’ capabilities, specifically the skills, knowledge, and behaviors to be their child’s first teacher.
Presented by: Paula Landry and Steven Lindauer
Paula Landry is an EI-TVI, Orientation and Mobility Specialist, and certified VIISA and INSITE trainer with A Shared Vision. Wearing many leadership hats, Paula provides operational support and mentoring for A Shared Vision's teachers.

Prior to A Shared Vision, Paula worked with the Anchor Center for Blind Children as a board member, Teacher of the Visually Impaired and leader of the Infant and Parent Program.  Paula is the very proud mother of an 21-year-old daughter, Maddie, who is blind.

Steven Lindauer is an executive, change consultant and human performance consultant. His professional career included 17 years with Accenture, culminating as their Global Competency Leader for Human Performance, and later as an executive with a boutique organization engineering consultancy, an online education platform company, and a for-profit career school system.

Steve is currently the executive director with A Shared Vision, a nonprofit that provides early intervention services to Colorado’s families of very young children who are blind or visually impaired. He is an Advanced Associate in Emergenetics, a tool that provides businesses and individuals a distinct view into how they prefer to think and behave.
